Illinois Fertilizer Conference ProceedingsThe Illinois Fertilizer Conference Proceedings are distributed at the annual Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association conference that is held in Peoria, Illinois. A portion of the Conference is devoted to oral reports of the accomplishments of each of the research projects that have been funded by grants from the Illinois Department of Agriculture Fertilizer Research and Education Council (FREC).
Funding for these grants is made possible by a contribution to the Illinois Department of Agriculture of 12.5 cents per ton of fertilizer sold from each of the Illinois Fertilizer Dealerships. The 8 member Fertilizer Research and Education Council consists of 3 representatives of the fertilizer industry, 3 representatives of crop production, and 2 representatives of the public at large. FREC solicits projects consistent with the scope of the fertilizer research and education program, carefully reviews each proposal, and awards funds for those projects that have the greatest potential to improve the efficiency of fertilizer use and/or reduce the potential for negative impact of nutrients on the environment. Each project is required to provide quarterly reports to the Illinois Department of Agriculture, to make an oral report at the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association Conference, and to provide a written report for inclusion in the Fertilizer Conference Proceedings.
The Conference and Proceedings are sponsored by the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association, the University of Illinois Department of Crop Sciences, University of Illinois Extension, the College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
